Janet Opens the American Music AwardsNovember 27, 2009
On Sunday Nov 22, Janet opened the 37th Annual American Music Awards with a special performance!
The AMAs is being hailed as the biggest music show seen in 2009. The show averaged 14.2 million viewers over the three-hour broadcast, an improvement of 2 million viewers from a year ago and the best numbers the show has averaged since 2002.
Janet opened the show with an 8 minute medley performance of some of her number one hits, in celebration of her album “Number Ones” which is now available in the US.
The crowd was delighted by the energetic and exciting delivery of Janet’s hits “Control”, “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, “Miss You Much”, “If” and her first performance of her new single “Make Me”.
The medley concluded with an emotional performance of “Together Again” which was followed by a standing ovation for Janet.
This was the fourth time Janet has performed on the American Music Awards, having previously performed “Control” in 1987, “Escapade” in 1990 and “Together Again” in 1998.
Janet is also a nine-time American Music Award winner, having won the award for Soul/R&B Single for “Nasty,” as well as for Soul/R&B Video Female in 1987.
Her hit “Miss You Much” garnered two nods in 1990 for Dance Single and Soul/R&B Single, and in 1991 she took home the prizes for Dance Artist, Pop/Rock Female and Soul/R&B Female.
Janet also earned an AMA in 1999 for Soul/R&B Female and in 2002 for Pop/Rock Female.
